The Exquisite Wedding of Q & U

Did you know Q and U are in love? It's true! This week in Pre-K we held the much anticipated wedding for Q & U to help the peas remember that u always follows q in our writing, and together they make the /kw/ sound.  It was a very fun wedding! To be fair, they drew names for each role of the wedding party. We had a Q and U of course, several bridesmaids, groomsmen, ushers for seating, members of the wedding party, a flower girl, a ring bearer, etc.

The guests were seated in the next room ready for the entrance of Q and U.

The vows were exchanged....

And after the announcement that Q and U would always work together to make words, and a couple of word suggestions from the audience, we had cake and sparkling apple cider!

The peas REALLY enjoyed the cake!

 

 

 

This sweet girl shared her wedding attire from home with the bride, who offered to let her wear it for the reception. What awesome cooperation!

Next, Ms. Jennifer and Ms. Amy DJ'd the reception while the peas danced enthusiastically. And I mean, very enthusiastically. Some of the shots are blurred because you can't just stop dancing when you are getting down!

When we got tired from all that dancing, we brainstormed, drew and wrote Q and U words for gifts for the bride and groom.

 

All in all, it was a success!

And today, Pre-K 2 celebrated Ryder's birthday! Ms. Rhonda, who is amazingly creative, always makes the birthday boy or girl in Pre-K 2 a special crown. They are all different, and I love seeing them each time!

For the rest of the week, we will be learning about weather, colors of the rainbow and making tie dye shirts. Happy Tuesday!

Busy Bees

 This past week was all about bugs at the ECDC and we did a ton of fun activities. We ran out of days in the week before we ran out of things to do, no thanks to Pinterest :) which has a million fun bug crafts and games! Here are a a few of our sweet bumblebees. There were a lot more cute pre-k bees, but I forgot to grab my camera until the very end of the day!

  We added bugs, magnifying glasses, bug catchers and grass to the sensory table which was a hit with everyone.

  Ms. Amy has this talking microscope and plenty of bug slides for our science center.

  I also found this amazing freebie on TPT which had great activities for bug week like the word family sheet below and the Squish game which was wildly popular! I love sneaking sight words into a fun game. 

  The peas took this game VERY seriously as you can tell from their faces. I probably played this game a dozen times a day, which is awesome since they are memorizing Dolche sight words along the way.

   For math, we played an insect probability game. That dice below hit me in the head several times. The peas are very enthusiastic rollers.

 We did some ladybug puzzles in manipulatives....

We also played Bug Bingo which has wonderful pictures of a variety of insects.

 

Ms. Amy had adorable crafts she did with her class, including this life cycle of a butterfly made out of pasta and the marble painted bumblebees with coffee filter wings. I loved how they turned out!

 In my class, we painted caterpillars and after they dried, we cut them out and put them in cocoons to hang from the ceiling. On Monday, we will see if they have had a metamorphosis. Aaaaannnnd....they will have! :)

  Both classes painted a giant Very Hungry Caterpillar (based on the book by Eric Carle) and then we cut out pictures of food from magazines, punched holes in it and glued it to our Very Hungry Caterpillar.

  I LOVE him! He turned out so adorable and fat.

 To go along with the book, we had a pocket chart Hungry Caterpillar set that we could re-tell the story with. 

 To wrap up the week, we grabbed some magnifying glasses to explore for bugs on our playground. After all the rain we had, we found a lot of worms.

    Some of us loved to hold them....

 

 And some of us just helped Ms. Jen take pictures and observe.... :)

  I'm in the second category; I've fished with worms before, but no holding worms just for fun!

All in all, it was a fabulous week. Hope you all had as much fun at work as we had at school!
