It was a week of rainbows and weather last week, although this week we had a lot more practical experience with stormy weather thanks to the tornadoes in the area. Luckily, we were blessed to be safe and the storm passed without incident at the ECDC. Well, mostly :) Like the rest of GCISD, we were shuffled into our safe spot for over an hour. The kids were very brave and really well behaved considering nobody napped and everyone was very cozy all squished together!
We started off the week with a big project Ms.Molly found on pinterest making tie dye shirts. This was really fun and the peas did the whole thing on their own!
It only involved a white t-shirt, sharpies, alcohol and lots of creativity.
And they turned out wonderful!
We discussed Roy G. Biv also know as Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. Here he is below. Interesting guy, huh? :)
We did a little color building to make "even rainbows" with the Cuisenaire rods.
And played a rainbow snake game. It's highly recommended, a great game for critical thinking, matching, visual discrimination, etc. You can check it out here.
We practiced our cutting....
And we worked on the letter V for our alphabet books, which by the way, are adorable. Parents will see them soon, as we send them home at the end of the year, which is getting closer and closer!
I love this book about clouds, it keeps the kids guessing what "it" is all the way through. We made our own "spilt milk" pictures and had some really interesting shapes. The kids saw all kinds of things I wouldn't have seen.
This one is an ice cream cone.
We strung up some delicious rainbow necklaces from Fruit Loops.
We also experimented with wind, and after giving the peas straws, toothpicks, playdough, tape and some small cars, we challenged them to move the cars without hands. It didn't take long for them to figure it out, those clever peas!
Ms. Amy and Rhonda did a predictability graph with a raindrop that had a cat on one side and a dog on the other. Super Cute!
Here's to more sunshine in the weeks to come, and no more raining cats and dogs!
