So.... dental health week was sometime last month and I'm just getting to it! I have been incredibly busy and have to catch up on these posts, so hopefully I will get the month of March up and posted soon so you can all see what your beautiful bright children have been up to! We started out dental health week by learning about foods that were good and bad for our teeth. Pre-K 2 made a collage during centers.
This activity was great for cutting, gluing, identifying and sorting.
They had a happy tooth and a sad tooth.
Ms. Amy had this adorable game set up for her peas to play Monday morning. It was a little more difficult than they expected to guess who's smile each picture belonged to!
In Pre-K 1, the peas started discussing the ever elusive tooth fairy after reading a book about losing teeth. So naturally, I thought we should do an art/writing activity about the tooth fairy while they were interested! We began by drawing and painting our fairies.
Although only girls are in the picture, the boys soon stopped by and did their own drawings.
After the paint dried, they added glitter (for that magical quality) and then they wrote about them. How precious are these?!
Pre-K 2 continued their learning with a tooth counting roll and cover game.
They also made tooth puppets!
I love this morning message. The peas guessed how many baby teeth they thought they had. The right answer is 20; children usually have a set of 20 baby teeth by age 3.
Pre-K 1, who are in the midst of a writing frenzy, made giant toothbrushes and wrote words that described how their teeth felt after they brushed them.
Two different boys wrote "osm" on their toothbrushes and they weren't even in the same group! It took me a minute to figure it out and they did a great job of sounding it out phonetically! Interpretation: "Awesome"
Pre-K 1 took a hint from Pre-K 2 and made a similar graph:
We also made our own version of Ms. Amy's game...we made our guessing game into a book! On the back of the page is the friend's picture.
It was a popular book all week!
One of our peas went to the dentist the same week we were learning about teeth and his mom asked if they could have a copy of the x-rays to bring to school and share. It was a great idea! The class loved seeing his adult teeth above the baby teeth. Talk about relevant learning! After a thousand questions, we used the ipads to look up more x-rays and information about baby teeth and adult teeth.
At the end of the week one of our sweet moms who works for a dental office visited to speak to the classes about dental health. She had some great props and information and I learned a few things from her! The peas really enjoyed it and it was a great way to wrap up our week!
Happy Sunday, I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend! Be looking for Ponds and Pets to be posted soon!
That's a great dental health week celebrated by the children I must say Ms. Jennifer. Dental care and denture care are very necessary in terms of taking tooth health.
